My Strength Is Gone — He Carries Me
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
There was a time when I would read this verse and assume it was a motivational scripture which implied that I could accomplish anything I want, based on my own strength.
I have come to realise that this verse is not about how strong I am or about what I can achieve. It is about Christ giving me the strength to endure whatever season I am facing.
Looking back on what I have faced and overcome, I can clearly see it was Jesus that gave me the ability to endure and overcome. There are times that I want to give up, but Jesus has given me the resilience to keep going. Every day he reminds me that I do not need to do all this on my own, because I do not have the strength to face everything that lies ahead. I just need to rely on him each day.
Maybe that is what this verse means for you too, that you do not have to be strong on your own, Christ is your strength.
Journaling for the week
What has been draining your strength? Have you been trying to fix, control or carry something you need to give to God?
A guided prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, help me not to try carrying everything by myself, but instead remind me to turn to you when my strength is running low. When I am weak, You are strong. I do not have to try to have all the answers or to figure everything out on my own, I only need to lean on you. Because of you, I can do all things. Amen.
