Who Jesus Says You Are
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.”
For the longest time, my identity was defined by my past relationships, my past mistakes, how others saw me and their opinions of me.
It was only when I stopped looking to the world for validation that I was able to receive the new Identity that God has given to me.
The world says your past defines you, but Jesus says you are a new creation and that your past no longer defines you. The world says that being in a relationship will determine your worth, but Jesus reminds you that your worth is established in him through what he did on the cross.
When you know this, it doesn’t matter who stays or who leaves, or what others may say or think of you. Your creator knows you. He has created you for a purpose. You are loved, chosen and forgiven.
Let the One who created you be the One who defines you—not the world.
Journaling for the week
In your journal this week I want you to draw a line down the middle of a page and give it the title — Who defines me.
On the left side of the page, write down all the labels, mistakes, opinions and experiences that have shaped how you see yourself. For example: Not good enough / Failure / Unlovable / Too much / Rejected
On the right, replace all of those things with the truth of God’s word. For example, Chosen / Loved / I am fearfully and wonderfully made / accepted.
End it with — This is who God says I am.
A guided prayer
Dear Heavenly father, help to stop measuring my worth by who stays or by who leaves. To know that I am not broken, I am not unloved. Instead, I am who you say I am, restored, loved and created intentionally with a purpose. Today I chose to believe you and embrace this new Identity I now have through you. In Jesus name, Amen.
