The Battle of the Mind

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 12:2
✦ ✦ ✦

Fear can be such a sneaky thing. One moment I’m doing okay, and then out of nowhere a thought or memory from the past reminds me of the battles I am facing. Suddenly my mind begins to race, my heart starts to feel heavy, and I am fighting not to believe the lies. Instead, I try to remember God’s truth.

It is in those moments that I have a choice. Will I believe the lies, or will I turn to God and trust His promises? This is never easy for me to do; however, I have learned that when I bring my thoughts back into line with God’s word, I am reminded that this battle is not mine to fight alone.

Some days I have victory and other days are hard, but this journey is not about perfection. As I align my mind with His word, I am met with unlimited grace, and the strength I need for the day.

This transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but every time we choose God’s truth over fear, He is renewing us from the inside out.

Journaling for the week

What fear, doubt, or worry is causing your heart to race?

Are these thoughts based on God’s truth, or are they based on fear?

A guided prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to recognise the lies that try to take hold of my mind. Renew my thoughts in Your truth, strengthen my faith, and by Your Holy Spirit remind me that I never fight my battles alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
